What: Two-and-a-half-hour walking tour

One of the most well-preserved medieval sites in Italy, the town of Gradara resides in the Marche region in central Italy. It’s a popular tourist resort and the scene of many historical reenactments. Sitting 142 meters above sea level, the town provides views of the Republic of San Marino, Rimini, and Carpegna.

1. Torre dell’ Orologio (Clock Tower)

At the town gate, the guide will describe Gradara’s historical context and role throughout the centuries.

2. Via della Fiera (Fair Street)

We will stroll along this street to view the most recent portion of the town’s walls.

3. Via IX Settembre (September 9th Street)

This street offers the opportunity to take in the surrounding panorama stretching from San Marino to Rimini, Italy.

4. Via Umberto I (Umberto 1st Street)

As we walk along this street, we will approach the second stage of town walls. On our way, we will pass by ancient palaces as well as the Chiesa del Santissimo Sacramento (Church of Santissimo Sacramento) and Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (Church of Saint John the Baptist I). We’ll be able to see the iconic Gradara Castle at the top of the hill.

5. Castello di Gradara (Gradara Castle)

We’ll climb the hill and reach the mighty castle, the best part of the tour. Inside this glorious war facility, the many well-preserved rooms and underground passageways will transport us back to the Middle Ages.
